Apprentice XR Production Manager

About the apprenticeship

We’re looking for an Apprentice Production Manager to train under Justine Katerenchuk in production managing digital / hybrid theatre events. You will become familiar with the world of live performance in XR (virtual, augmented, and mixed reality), learn how to use a Meta Quest 3 VR headset, explore a variety of VR platforms, and gain skills as you work with the Single Thread team to bring the Performance and XR (PXR) 2027 conference to life.

This position aims to support professional development experiences for artists and arts professionals, notably from equity-deserving groups. We are looking for applications from emerging theatre workers who have experience or interest in stage management, production management, or arts admin. You do not need to have previous experience in digital/immersive works or XR, just an interest in learning!

Learnings will include:

  • The history and background of Single Thread XR, and the Performance and XR conference
  • Familiarization with the XR and performance industry in North America, including key players, technology, and works
  • How to use a Meta Quest 3 VR headset and social VR platforms
  • How to create and monitor a project timeline in a conference/festival setting
  • Project and team management for hybrid events
  • Providing support for conference artists and speakers, and onboarding them into VR
  • Shadow meetings about worldbuilding, fundraising, partnership, hiring, and beyond

Responsibilities will include:

  • PLANNING: Establishing project timelines, goals, and benchmarks, and communicating these out to the team;
  • MANAGEMENT: Assisting in the hiring of production teams, overseeing a team and giving them the support they need to reach the organization’s goals;
  • ONBOARDING: Onboarding new artists and staff;
  • MEETINGS: Coordinating regular team meetings and attending quarterly steering committee meetings;
  • EVENTS: Providing live support during digital and in-person events;
  • COMMUNITY: Representing Single Thread at meetings and events, welcoming guests, and stewarding the Single Thread XR community

Qualifications

  • Be an emerging production manager, stage manager, events manager or project manager.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Experience working in theatre, digital media, or events. Experience with virtual events and/or events in the arts or tech sector is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work well independently and meet deadlines.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite. 
  • Passion for and/or a creative practice rooted in immersive theatre and/or XR is a strong asset.
  • Interest in technology and video games intersecting with the arts is a strong asset.

PXR has since become an annual event taking place on VRChat, a free-to-use social VR platform.

Marketing & Communications Manager/Coordinator

About the job

As the Marketing & Communications Manager / Coordinator, you will work closely with the Single Thread team to plan, produce, and oversee the execution of all communications. This includes outreach materials, event promotion, website content, and social media platforms. 

You will work with the XR Producers to manage the Single Thread brand across all platforms and you will be the primary contact person for all branding initiatives during the 2026/2027 season.

This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute the social media marketing plan and calendar for PXR2027 with Producers.
  • Create and schedule content for Instagram, Facebook, Linked In, including graphics, reels, stories, and posts.
  • Generate and distribute a Single Thread newsletter, aiming to grow the subscriber base.
  • Implement a content review system with Producers prior to posting.
  • Use Single Thread email for all communications and maintain project files on Google Drive.
  • Provide necessary equipment (excluding a Meta Quest 2 headset, which is supplied).
  • Attend weekly meetings and marketing check-ins to report progress.
  • Assist in testing event tools as required.
  • Contribute to the audience attendance strategy for PXR2027, focusing on three in-person venues.
  • Be available full-time during the conference to capture content for social media.
  • Attend and photograph for key events and daily check-ins, including the tech day and in-person presentations.
  • Ensure all documents, images, marketing plans, and content are finalized and submitted.
  • Uphold Single Thread’s Code of Conduct and act as a positive ambassador for PXR.
  • Liaise with partners and perform other reasonable duties as required.

    This is a position with flexible working hours and regular online communication and periodic in-person meetings.

    Qualifications

    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period (as per Canada Summer Jobs funding requirements).

    Attendee Relations Coordinator

    As the Audience Relations Coordinator, you will work closely with the Single Thread team to plan, produce, and oversee the execution of all audience facing communications. 

    You will work with the XR Producers to manage the ticketing platforms, attendee onboarding, presenter communications and venue communications for the Performance and XR Conference 2027.

    This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program.

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Provide input on an audience attendance strategy for PXR2027 including the three in-person venues;
    • Provide input on ticketing systems and planning for each in-person venue;
    • Lead the creation of agreed upon ticketing software for conference events;
    • Update the Attendee Handbook for PXR2027;
    • Compose and send emails to attendees with information on how to access the conference;
    • Coordinate onboarding sessions for attendees as needed during the week before and week of PXR2027;
    • Be the main contact for audience communication/onboarding during the conference;
    • Update the Single Thread XR Discord with the daily schedule of the conference;
    • Moderate the PXR2027 Discord live streams and PXR2027 Discord channels;
    • Send out daily emails to conference attendees recapping the previous day of the conference, and providing information about the upcoming day;
    • Receive links to the PXR2027 event videos from the Technical Director and share the videos with the conference attendees via Discord and Email;
    • Create and disseminate a post-conference survey for attendees.
    • Be available full-time during the conference to assist attendees and provide the team regular ticketing updates.
    • Attend key events and daily check-ins, including the tech day and in-person presentations.
    • Ensure all documents, images, marketing plans, and content are finalized and submitted.

    Venue Coordinators (Toronto, Kingston, Vancouver)

    About the job

    As the Venue Coordinator, you will work closely with the Single Thread team to plan, produce, and oversee the execution of events for the Performance and XR Conference. 

    We are hiring multiple positions for our various events in February within Toronto, Kingston and Vancouver.

    This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program.

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Work with the Events & Operations Manager and Producers to ensure each phase of PXR venue planning goes smoothly, including venue partnership, sourcing and planning of technical elements including lighting and sound, and communicating this information to team members in Vancouver and Kingston;
    • Planning of any hybrid activities including the recording and streaming of in-person activities to the web, and live digital connections to the other venues;
    • Communicate with team members in Vancouver and Kingston regarding design and vision for the venues to ensure that the in-person venues have a cohesive feel;
    • Attend regular meetings of the PXR planning team and provide a recap at each meeting with clear action items;
    • Alongside the XR Producers, manage, lead, and support team members at in-person venues;
    • Support PXR’s goal of being a national conference by linking the in-person offering to digital offerings;
    • Support the Audience Relations Manager by providing proper information about the venues to be communicated to the attendees;
    • Discuss with XR Producer, Associate XR Producer & Executive Producer on decisions regarding the operations and management of the venues;
    • Seek approval from XR Producer on costing and procurement of materials and services.
    • Attend all events and daily check-ins, including the tech day and in-person presentations.
